Dave's G scale railroad features expansive dirt hills and scenery. Inspired by the La Mesa Model Railroad in San Diego, his Mojave Subdivision is set in 1994, the final full year of operations under the Southern Pacific and Santa Fe flags. This year's project has been the construction of a massive concrete mountain, measuring 55' long, 19' at its widest point, and over 8' tall. Beneath the mountain are four hidden storage tracks. Similar storage tracks are located at the west end of the railroad, just west of Caliente. Expect to see 20+ car trains with helper engines tackling the grades on the layout. His backyard features a significant incline, with Caliente sitting 32 real feet—or 928 G scale feet—below the summit. With a ruling grade of 3%, closely matching the real Tehachapi 2.2+% grade, the layout brings California's most famous railfan spot to life in eastern PA.
